All grade8/9 band students will be performing at the Alberta International Band Festival (AIBF) on February 23rd, at 4:00 pm at the Rozsa Centre at the University of Calgary.
As February 23rd is a Friday, students will go home after early dismissal at 1:20 to have lunch and change into their band uniform. They are expected to be back at school for 2:15 pm to load the bus for the Rozsa Centre. Transportation will be by coach bus, booked through National Transportation.
PLEASE NOTE: consistency of uniforms forms part of their festival mark, so please ensure students have their band shirt, black bottoms (pants or skirts), black socks or tights, and black shoes.
As per the Band Handbook, attendance at performances, festivals, and concerts is mandatory.
Following is the schedule for the afternoon:
2:15-2:30 pm: load bus at SWS
2:30-3:30 pm: travel to U of C
3:30-4:00 pm: warm up
4 pm-Performance on stage at the Rosza Centre
4:00-4:30 pm: Adjudication
4:30-4:45 pm: bus leaves for SWS
5:45 pm: estimated arrival time at school
Consent forms for this trip for most students were completed at the beginning of the year. We will contact you individually if we do not have one on file for your student.
Parents and guardians are welcome to attend this performance. There is no admission fee, but there will be a fee for parking. If you are attending the performance and wish to take your student home afterwards, please complete and return the sign out letter found here. .
We are looking for 6 volunteers to help supervise; volunteers must have CBE clearance. Please contact Ms. Bolen at jcbolen@cbe.ab.ca if you are able to assist.
The cost of this trip is included in your $50 band fee. If you have not already paid your band fee, please do so as soon as possible.
