May 30th Outdoor Spring Concert Info

Should the weather be uncooperative for the evening concert, seating will be made available in the school for your dining pleasure, and the concert itself will be held in the gym.

On Thursday afternoon (May 3oth) the SWS Concert Bands are planning to hold an outdoor concert/dress rehearsal for all students (assuming the weather holds-fingers crossed!).  The concert is expected to take place between 2 pm and 3 pm, and will feature performances from the Grade 6, 7, and 8/9/ bands.  The audience will be seated on the grass, so students are encouraged to bring hats, sunscreen, bug spray, water bottles and blankets.  

 
Food trucks will be at the school for purchases of treats and snacks, starting at 1:10 pm.  Available for purchase will be mini donuts, hot dogs, poutine and ice pops. Cash, credit, and debit payments will be accepted. In the case of excessive rain, there will be no afternoon dress rehearsal and students will attend classes as usual.  

General Reminders For Band Students:

Students are to go home after school, as there will be no supervision provided.  They can return as early as 5 pm, but need to be back at the school no later than 6:30 pm for warm-up.  Students are graded on their concert attendance so please ensure they are back at the school on time.  

Uniforms: Grade 6 students are asked to dress up for the occasion. Summer dresses and dress shorts would be appropriate. Grade 7,8 and 9 are required to wear their uniforms, though they can choose to wear black dress shorts for this occasion instead of black dress pants (grade 7, 8, and 9 students: remember that you are individually marked on your uniform).

NOTE: Students will NOT be supervised by SWS staff at any point during the evening concert.

Schedule of Events:

5 pm to 7:00 pm-family picnic

6:30 pm-students must go to their designated places to start warming up

 7:00 pm to 7:20 pm-Grade 6 band performance

 7:20 pm to 7:45 pm-Grade 7 band performance

 7:45 pm to 8:15 pm-Grade 8/9 band performance

The students are ready and eager to show off their hard work in the band room this year, and we ask that you reward them by staying for the entire concert.  

Food Truck Information: The following trucks will be ready to serve starting at 5 pm and will be available until 7 pm:

Waffles & Chix
The school washrooms and fountains will be open to the public during the event.

All food trucks accept cash, debit, and credit.

Seating: Please bring your blankets and lawn chairs, as well as water bottles, sunscreen, and bug spray. Permits have been obtained from the City of Calgary to allow attendees to set up their chairs and blankets on the grass near the green path, and on on the soccer fields, in addition to the school grounds.
